Beauty Q&A: Is It All Right to Skip the Moisturizer If My Skin Is Not Dry?

Although the current skin care trend is to go as high as ten steps in order to achieve great skin, a lot of girls still swear by the classic cleanse-tone-moisturize regimen. But despite the effectivity of the simple, 3-step skin care routine, a lot of girls still wonder if moisturizing is really necessary—especially if their skin is not dry anyway. To help put an end to your skin care confusion, we asked dermatologist Dr. Rhoda Espino whether it’s all right to skip this classic, third step.

Q: Is it all right to skip the moisturizer if my skin is not dry?

Dr. Rhoda: While it doesn't look like your skin needs a tub of moisturizer when it's not dry or dull, without the moisturizer, the skin becomes more prone to skin dryness. Although you might not see it, ditching the moisturizer also makes the skin barrier less resilient, allowing bacteria buildup to occur and cause skin infection. Aside from that, as you grow older the natural moisture in your skin lessens, too and without a nifty moisturizer, the skin is more prone to dehydration, which can cause premature wrinkles.
