Acne, blackheads, and blemishes are just some the most common beauty problems that girls face, but whiteheads are also prevalent among girls of all ages, too. A lot of girls tend to miss this common beauty problem because the'yre tiny and white, making it less noticeable to the naked eye. But whiteheads can be just as pesky as your modern acne and can cause your skin problems, too. Read on to find out the causes of whiteheads and how you can finally get rid of them!

Q: Why do I have a lot of whiteheads on my nose?

Dr. Raissa: We all have the greatest density of oil glands on the T-zone of our face—the forehead, nose, and chin. During puberty, hormonal changes cause these oil glands to be more active. Oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria can block pores and cause blackheads and whiteheads. Sometimes these can get infected and cause bigger pimples. But don’t worry because whiteheads can be removed by using products with salicylic acid, glycolic acid or retinol. After a few weeks of use some of the whiteheads will dry up on their own. For the remaining ones, try exfoliating with a gentle once a week scrub. Never pick at whiteheads with dirty fingers since these can get infected. For stubborn ones, manual extraction with a comedone extractor can be performed by your dermatologist.
