Beauty Q&A: Can Beauty Products Really Make Your Pores Smaller?

Get the answer straight from a dermatologist!

There is a long list of beauty problems that just seems to go on and on and one of the problems that beauty gals and non-beauty girls alike face is enlarged pores. There are a lot of beauty brands coming out with different beauty products that promise to solve pores problem but can they truly deliver? We sat down with Dr. Raissa to discuss if beauty products can really make your pores smaller.

Q: Can beauty products really make your pores smaller?

Dr. Raissa: Pore size is genetic. Some people are born with small pores and some aren't. However, pores can appear larger when they are clogged with dead skin cells such as when people are having acne problems. Skincare products containing salicylic acid, glycolic acid or retinol (Vitamin A creams) help increase and regulate skin cell turnover, thereby unclogging the pore. Pores, then appear to look smaller. Makeup primers and BB creams that contain silicone can also help to fake the appearance of smaller pores, but they don't really do anything to help unclog them.
