ICYMI, Ayn Bernos announced last week that she’s releasing her very own makeup brand! The 26-year-old vlogger-entrepreneur is launching Kayu Beauty with makeup artist Rica Salomon, graphic designer Kai Javier, model Landamme Vivas, and travel enthusiast JR Rodriguez.
Yesterday, they announced Kayu Kiss as their first ever product. FYI, it’s a moisturizing bullet lipstick that comes in six nude shades. So exciting!
Naturally, Ayn received many questions regarding the brand name’s meaning. Ayn promptly responded through TikTok, explaining that “Kayu” is actually short for kayumanggi.
“It actually started when Rica and I were brainstorming about the name. She wanted to put a makeup brand, I wanted to continue with my advocacy. And we came up with Kayu, short for kayumanggi,” she said.
“I’ve been frustrated for a long time na parang afterthought kasi yung morenas sa mga campaigns. It’s like we’re the background persons. So when we created the makeup brand, we wanted to make sure we have the space we always wanted,” she explained.
Ayn also clarified that they won’t be limiting their products to only morena-friendly shades. “Now, that doesn’t mean that it’s exclusive to morenas or anything like that. It just means na yay, we advocate for everyone, especially you guys,” she added.
