YouTuber Ashley Garcia recently shared her anti-acne skincare routine and it's very minimalist. After a series of stress-inducing life events which include pulling all-nighters for work and school, the content creator shared how she started to break out even though her skin's not the type to easily get acne.

It got a lot worse to the point where her pimple grew so big that she had to pop it. Because her skin's not the type to get a bad case of acne very often, Ashley had to start anew and come up with a skincare regimen to specifically address her pimple problem.

Ashley came up with a five-product skincare routine, all of which she purchased from the drugstore: Cetaphil Deep Cleansing Bar, Ponds Acne Clear Facial Foam, Betadine, Belo Acne Pro Pimple Gel, and Garnier Light Complete Serum. As a believer of "less is more" especially when it comes to skincare, Ashley said that she focused on the cleansing part instead and ditched the moisturizer and toner.

What got our attention, however, was a product that you wouldn't usually find in a typical skincare routine. Among the five items was Betadine, or Povidone Iodine, a product that is usually used to treat minor wounds. Ashley used this as a spot treatment after cleansing. She leaves it on for 10 to 20 minutes before proceeding with the rest of her routine. According to her, this is probably the "game-changer" in her minimalist skincare regimen and helped prevent her acne from leaving dark spots (Ashley, however, warns that because every skin is different, what might have worked for her might not necessarily work for everyone else).

While it's not clinically proven to treat acne, Povidone Iodine does have antiseptic properties, which might have helped in preventing acne-causing bacteria from further cultivating. In around one week of consistently doing her skincare routine (she did it thrice a day, too), Ashley's skin went back to normal.
