5 Ways You Can Protect Yourself from the Sun Every Day

Keep your skin glowing, healthy, and protected from the sun all summer long!

The sun is out, the weather is warmer, and in no time at all it will start to be the perfect time to spend your days having picnics outdoors or tanning by the pool. But before you go ahead and enjoy all those activities this coming summer, you need to make sure you're protected from the scorching heat of the sun! Why? Because the sun actually has harmful UV rays and constant sun exposure can cause premature aging. It might not show now but what you do to your skin at present will contribute to the quality of your skin when you get older. Not only that, the same harmful rays can also damage your skin's DNA, which then leads to skin cancer! So if you want to prevent wrinkles, skin pigmentation, and cancer, protecting your skin a.k.a. applying sunblock daily has to become a part of your daily beauty habit. Also, getting a tan after hours of baking under the sun is definitely not cool anymore—opt for self-tanners and tinted lotions instead.

  1. Pick a broad spectrum sunscreen to use daily in the morning. This means you're protected from both UVB (cause of sunburn) and UVA rays (cause of premature aging and skin cancer). Most only protect against UVB rays, so it's best to check (it has SPF PA+++ on the label)! Also be sure to apply this all over skin before lotion and before getting dressed so that your skin has enough time to soak it all in and you won't miss a spot!

  2. Always in a rush in the morning and need a quicker beauty regimen? Opt for BB cream, foundation, or face powder with SPF instead, even if you plan to just stay indoors. The sun’s rays can still reach you even through a window, so it's best to always be protected!


  3. Staying out in the sun for long periods at a time? Make sure to reapply your sunscreen every three hours for your body and every 2 hours for your face since this part of your body is extra sensitive!

  5. Your lips and hair need protecting from sun damage and drying too! Always make sure to swipe on a lip balm that moisturizes throughout the day and apply serum or oil all over your hair to keep your tresses healthy during the summer heat.
