10 Things Your Brow Artist Wants You To Stop Doing
The '90s gal's got the giddiest smile on her face after purchasing her first ever lip gloss and the '00s girl got crazy excited after buying her first red lipstick. Now, brows have somewhat taken centerstage in the beauty department, and while lip glosses are still retro cool and lipsticks are always going to be a beauty kit staple, the 2010s girl knows the importance of bold brows to pack a strong beauty look. To make sure that your brows are always on fleek, we asked Benefit Cosmetics' national brow artist Celina Fernandez to dish out the ten things you should avoid at all cost to get brows that are nothing short of bold and flattering.
Neglecting your brows.
Not taking care of your brows is a huge crime any beauty girl can commit. Brows are important features of the face because not only do they hold the key to one's facial expressions, but they also draw attention to the eyes, and when well taken care of, can make one look younger and more energized, too.
Full brows can actually make one look younger! So, to maintain a fresh look, don't over-tweeze your full brows, and simply groom them instead.
Using the wrong color, or shade of brow products.
One of the most common mistake that a lot of girls make is using the wrong shade of brow makeup. While the brow shape is important, the shade of the brow makeup that you use is just as important, too because it can either make or break your entire look! When choosing the right color of brow makeup, base it on the roots of your hair color. If the roots of your hair are black, or dark, go one, or two shades lighter than the color of your roots.
When you over-tweeze your brows, or put on too much brow makeup, you run the risk of getting tadpole brows, which can make you look tired and older than you really are! To avoid tadpole brows, try growing out your natural brows first, and while you’re at it, map your brows to find the perfect brow shape for your face.
Using eyeliners and eyeshadows as substitutes for your brow makeup.
Eyeliners and eyeshadows are formulated to work best on your eye lids and waterline. These products were not tried and tested for brow use and most of them may not adhere to your brow hair, too. So, when putting on makeup on your brows, only use products that are made specifically for it.
Skimping on brow products.
As one grows older, brow hair tends to fall off, too! So, as much as possible, take good care of your brows and choose products that not only fills, tames, and tints your brows, but also nourishes it to make it healthier.
DIY brow projects.
The hair follicles on the brows are sensitive, and once it gets damaged there's a chance that it won't grow back anymore. That's why DIY brow grooming is not really advisable because when you tweeze your own brows, you tend to forget to look at your brows as a pair, and focus only on the brow that you're working on.
Not grooming your brows regularly.
If you want to look polished and put together in a snap, have your brows groomed regularly to look fresh and younger right away.
Using hair dye to change the color of your brows.
Hair dyes contain oxidative chemicals that can cause allergic reactions, and even blindness. The eyes are more sensitive than the scalp so, it's definitely dangerous to use the same hair dye to color your brows. If you really want to change your brow shade, there are a lot of blended organic tints that are especially formulated for brow and lash use. Invest in these products instead.
Not knowing the brow shape that's perfect for your face.
There are a lot of tutorials on how to determine the best brow shape for your face, but there are still a lot of women who do not know what brow shape suits her face shape the best. Instead of trying to determine it on your own, or experimenting at home, consult with a brow artist instead.
