In yet another interview, ex-One Direction cutie Zayn Malik talked about his decision of leaving the record-breaking boyband last year—a few weeks after it was announced that he won't be coming with the boys to Manila for their first two-day concert in the country last year. Tell us what we don't know, Zen. JK! Just kind of hurts hearing it straight from Zayn again and again and again, really. He recently talked to Beats 1's Zane Lowe in this interview about how he really felt like he didn't belong with the group even during the first year. UHM. (via JustJaredJr.com)
"I think I always kind of wanted to go. From like the first year really, I never really wanted to be there in the band. I just gave it a go because it was there at the time and then when I realized the direction we were going in with the music," he explained. "I instantly realized it wasn't for me because I realized I couldn't put any input in; I couldn't give my opinion on this or that because it didn't fit the grain of what we were as a band or what we represented. So that's when it became frustrating for me, that's when I had to be like, I've got to start thinking about myself."
Even in his previous cover interview with Billboard, the 22-year-old also talked about how he's always leaned towards a different music genre. "I genuinely enjoyed [the band] and did whatever I could to be myself within that," he said. "But it's just not where I sit as a musician. The other boys' taste was generally indie rock. It's good music, but I don't f*** with it. That was never cool where I was from." He event went as far as saying that he didn't buy and listen to the boy's fifth album, Made In the A.M.
We know, we know. It still hurts and breaks our hearts even if almost a year has gone by after Zen's departure. So yeah, we totally understand why Directioners everywhere are confused and conflicted about his recent interviews.
