There are lots of former child stars who have piqued our interest this year, and Zaijian Jaranilla is certainly no exception. Although he’s been in the spotlight for more than a decade now, it feels like only yesterday when he would perform funny skits on Goin’ Bulilit. We’ll always look back on his younger years with fondness, but it’s clear that this Gen Z actor is ready to take on greater heights in his career now that he’s all grown up. In case you haven’t watched him on The Broken Marriage Vow or spotted him on your Instagram feed, we’re here to give you a quick refresher on what he’s been up to lately.

Below, check out six fast facts that you might not know about Zaijian Jaranilla:

1. Zaijian is 20 years old.

Zaijian Godsick Lara Jaranilla was born in Manila on August 23, 2001. Since Zaijian’s parents separated when he was only five years old, he primarily grew up with his father, grandmother, and two younger brothers. That means he’s currently the eldest sibling of three at 20 years old!

2. Zaijan joined the showbiz industry early.

Zaijian was only five years old when a talent manager from RDB Talents and Events Management first discovered him. At that tender age, he was already booking commercials for big local brands like Tide, Lactum, McDonald’s, and Nestle. Two years later, he inked a deal with Star Magic and officially became one of ABS-CBN’s youngest child actors. For his initial two years under the network, he was a guest cast member in Goin Bulilit and a regular performer in ASAP and It’s Showtime. He bagged his first-ever lead role when he joined the cast of teleserye May Bukas Pa as Santino Guillermo, an innocent orphan who meets Jesus Christ. His memorable portrayal of the character caused his popularity to skyrocket, pushing him to play other roles in Agua Bendita, Maalaala Mo Kaya, and Metanoia. He then made his very first big screen appearance on Pak! Pak My Dr. Kwak! in 2011.

3. Zaijian debuted as a teen actor in 2014.

When Zaijian officially became a teenager at 13 years old, he began playing more mature roles. For instance, he portrayed grown-up characters in Hamog, The Story of Us, and even the country’s longest-running teleserye FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. Arguably, however, his most notable role as a teen actor is Gio Ilustre in The Broken Marriage Vow, where Zaijan starred alongside Jodi Sta. Maria, Sue Ramirez, and Zanjoe Marudo. The iconic show just concluded last month, so we’re totally looking forward to Zaijian’s next acting stint!

Zaijian is a high school student.

It’s not hard to guess that Zaijian has a busy showbiz schedule. Despite his numerous tapings and work events, the young star continues to prioritize his acads over his work. FYI, he’s currently attending Colegio de San Juan de Dios Inc. as a senior high school student under the Humanities and Social Sciences strand. Last January, netizens even discovered that he finished his recent semester as an honor student!

But prior to being an academic awardee, Zaijian actually struggled to juggle his requirements. The pressure pushed him to halt schooling after his sophomore year in high school, though he decided to take the Department of Education’s Philippine Educational Placement Test to resume his studies again. Previously, Zaijian completed his elementary studies in Angelicum College.

Zaijian knows how to sing.

If you’re a long-time fan of Zaijan, then you probably already know that this guy can actually carry a tune! During his early days in showbiz, he actually competed against Kyline Alcantara, Andrea Brillantes, and other former child actors in ABS-CBN’s Singing Bee. He also occasionally performed in ASAP alongside older stars like Kathryn Bernardo and Piolo Pascual. Although we haven’t heard him sing lately, we’re sure that he has the potential to make it big in the local music industry as well!

Zaijian loves video games.

In his free time, Zaijian likes to de-stress by playing online video games! Sometimes, he even streams some of his gameplay content on his Facebook channel. Judging by his recent streams, his favorite games are Mobile Legends and Call of Duty: Mobile.
