Attention, High School Musical fans! If like us, you've been waiting for a reboot of the hit Disney movie, you're totally *not* alone. Ever since the original movie franchise ended with High School Musical 3: Senior Year in 2008, the original cast members have gone on to have successful careers, though they have never forgotten their roots.
Zac Efron, in particular, recently expressed interest in starring in a reboot of the hit Disney movie. In an interview with E! News, he was asked, "Â Would Zac Efron be interested in a High School Musical reboot?"
"Of course, yeah seriously… Having the opportunity to in any form work with that team would be so amazing," he said in the interview.
He added: "My heart’s still there so that would be incredible. I hope it happens." Aww, our HSM hearts!
It has been 16 years since the release of the first movie, with the third and final movie released in October 2008. All three movies starred Zac alongside Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, and Lucas Grabeel.
In 2019, a series inspired by the High School Musical film was created for Disney+. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series premiered in November 2019 and starred Olivia Rodrigo, Joshua Bassett, Matt Cornett, and Sofia Wylie, among many others.
In 2020, Zac and Vanessa were ~virtually~ reunited with their High School Musical castmates for the Disney Family Singalong, where they sang "We're All In This Together."
Here's to hoping for an actual movie reboot with the original cast!
