South Korean supergroup BTS are probably one of the biggest stars in the music industry right now. Just imagine getting praised and recognized by the group—Pinay Ysabelle Cuevas knows exactly how it feels. The 23-year-old’s cover of “Boy With Luv” by BTS was seen and heard by the seven-member group themselves, who gave positive and loving reactions to the cover during Glamour’s You Sang My Song segment on their YouTube channel. “Wow, I gotta find this and listen to it again,” says member j-hope.
Before BTS, however, Ysabelle has been wowing fans (and even a big entertainment company, for that matter) with her vocals. Read on to know more about her:
She has a YouTube channel with over 2 million subscribers.
Ysabelle has had her channel since 2010 where she posts all sorts of song covers, from OPM hits to K-pop songs and K-drama OSTs. As of writing, Ysabelle has a loyal following of 2.3 million subscribers.
She makes English covers of K-pop songs.
What makes Ysabelle’s K-pop song covers stand out is that she adds her own spin to them by making English versions of these songs. Check out her English covers for yourself, like this one of “Psycho” by Red Velvet.
She won a competition hosted by YG Entertainment.
YG Entertainment, the same entertainment label that formed Blackpink, launched an online cover contest for “Wayo,” a single sung by a member of their latest boy group Treasure. The grand prize winner of the said contest is none other than Ysabelle, who did an English version of the Korean song.
She’s released her own songs.
While she’s known for her song covers, Ysabelle writes her own music too, and has released singles like “May Forever” and “I Like You So Much, You’ll Know It.”
