What These Shakespeare-Inspired Movies Taught Us About Life
English poet, playwright, and actor William Shakespeare turns 450 years old this month. And what better way to observe his special day than drown ourselves in his works.
NGL, it's not easy to read through all of what Shakespeare has written. Old English, hello? Good thing we have movies inspired by them to help us through lit class.

Almost all things in this animated feature screams Hamlet, except that they traded Denmark for Africa and humans for lions. In The Lion King, Mufasa is killed by his jealous brother Scar. Years later, Mufasa's son Simba comes back and reveals what really happened—taking the crown and the kingdom from his uncle.

Romeo + Juliet

A young Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes as Romeo and Juliet? Check. Tragic love story? Check. Most people know the plot of Romeo and Juliet. Life lesson: Even a messy moment, like the apocalypse, is a good time to fall in love.
Based on: Romeo and Juliet
Yes, this zombie movie is a modern day version of the love story. Julie (Teresa Palmer) falls in love with a zombie named R (Nicholas Hoult). Her father is against it because, duh, zombie. So, he attempts to kill R, but true love saves the day. This couple get their happy ending, unlike Romeo and Juliet.
Shakespeare In Love

Shakespeare is regarded as one of the best writers who ever lived, but that doesn't mean he hasn't experienced writer's block. This movie is loosely-based on what the playwright went through to come up with the story of Romeo and Juliet.
