On Thursday, June 25, three House of Rep. lawmakers, namely presidential son Paolo Duterte, Marinduque congressman Lord Allan Velasco, and ACT-CIS Representative Eric Go Yap, filed House Bill No. 7031, a bill that seeks to rename the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), to Paliparang Pandaigdig ng Pilipinas or what the netizens have since referred to as “PaPaPi.” (via Philstar.com, CNN Philippines)

According to Rep. Duterte they are calling for the change as, “NAIA is the international gateway of the Philippines, being the biggest and largest international airport in the country. As such, there is a need to identify the same as belonging to the Philippines.”

On December 10, 1987, Congress passed Republic Act No. 6639, changing the name of the Manila International Airport to Ninoy Aquino International Airport, named after the late former Senator Benigno Aquino Sr. who was assassinated at the same airport in 1983. And since then, the international airport has been known as NAIA.

In the explanatory note of the bill, it states that with the proposed name, the airport “will easily be identified as the international doorway of the country, in view of it being in Filipino language and branding it as the international airport of the Philippines.”

"PaPaPi" is one of the trending topics now on Twitter, and no, it's not about Piolo Pascual. It's to say people have *conflicted* feelings about it.
