News programs are interesting to watch but wait until you see the events behind the camera.
HBO original series The Newsroom had an exclusive premiere of the first episode of its second season entitled "First Thing We Do, Let's Kill All The Lawyers" held at UP Diliman, Palma Hall last July 30.
The Newsroom offers a behind-the-scenes look at the events happening in a high-rated cable-news program News Night on the fictional Atlantis Cable News (ACN) Network. The news stories covered in the show are often actual past news events or sometimes stories inspired by real-life events.
The nine-episode second season of The Newsroom begins a year later from where the first season left off, covering the period from August 2011 to November 2012. The newest season of the Golden Globe-nominated show touches on the administration’s anti-terrorism policy, Occupy Wall Street, Troy Davis, Trayvon Martin, Benghazi and the primaries, and general elections.
Veteran broadcaster and Rappler's CEO and chief editor Maria Ressa graced an open forum after the premiere of the show wherein the students, members of the press and other attendees had the chance to ask her questions about the landscape of news in the country. She also shared some of her experiences in her many years in the news broadcasting industry.
Maria Ressa left this advice to aspiring journalists: "You don't have to wait. If you want to be a journalist, start. Put up a blog, learn up the skills."
The Newsroom premieres its second season in Asia this August 5 at 9pm exclusively on HBO and HBO HD.
