Vice Ganda is a name most TV viewers would recognize in a heartbeat. Vice has starred in blockbuster comedy movies like The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin, Beauty and the Bestie, and Fantastica and is also a regular host of It's Showtime. Outside of showbiz, Vice stands as the CEO of homegrown makeup line Vice Cosmetics.
What many casual viewers may not know about Vice, however, is that she went to Far Eastern University and took up political science, hoping to one day pursue law as a profession. But despite not finishing school and switching career paths, Vice shares that there were a lot of lessons from being a political science major that she still carries until now.
In a virtual conference with Summit Media editors, Vice tells Candy that, aside from the laws they had to religiously memorize, there's one other thing she learned from being a political science student that is still useful even in her current line of work: having the confidence to speak your mind.
Pero siguro yung political science and yung dynamics doon sa loob ng classroon ng nag aaral ng political science at yung mga estudyanteng nakasama ko, it taught me to be free and confident to say your thoughts."
Vice shares that the kind of environment they had in college was one that encouraged discourse.
Aside from being confident, Vice also picked up the habit of reading the newspaper and staying up-to-date with social issues. Vice shares, "Especially at that time when I was schooling, dapat talaga socially relevant ka. So nabitbit ko yun hanggang ngayon."
Being quick-witted and knowing the latest social happenings also helped Vice when she first started doing stand-up comedy. Kasi nga araw-araw may bagong ganap.
