K-dramas and even Korean variety shows have been steadily gaining popularity over the years. Their unique concepts have been admired internationally to the point that other countries have made their own local adaptations of Korean shows. Below, we list down five TV adaptations in the US that were inspired by South Korean shows.

The Good Doctor

The Good Doctor stars Freddie Highmore as a surgeon with autism. He’s been nominated at the Golden Globes for Best Actor because of his role and the show itself has gotten numerous awards show wins. It’s based on a South Korean K-drama of the same name starring Joo Won.

The Masked Singer

The Masked Singer is a talent competition where celebrities perform on the show in disguises often involving masks and the panelists (Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, and Nicole Scherzinger) will have to guess the identity of the masked singer. The show is the US adaptation of the popular South Korean variety series King of Mask Singer. In the US version, artists like T-Pain, Chris Daughtry, and Jesse McCartney have made appearances. In the South Korean version, actors and idols alike have participated on the show, including Lee Sung Kyung and Super Junior’s Kyuhyun. In 2018, the South Korean show featured a performance by Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds.
