Dealing with illnesses nowadays can get pretty heavy on the pockets. Medicine does not come cheap, especially the ones being prescribed for mental health conditions. If you're currently an enrolled student from University of the Philippines struggling to come up with the needed finances for your meds, the school's health care facility can actually prescribe and provide you with the necessary medication for free, as long as stocks for it are still available.

In a Facebook post, Prej Prestosa from the University of the Philippines shared her experience with receiving prescribed medicine, free of charge, from UP Health Service. "I was able to talk with my physician from UP Health Service through telehealth consultation. After the session, she told me that my meds are free from the UPHS Pharmacy until supplies run out," she says in the post.

With regular drug stores, Prej's medicine would have cost her P1,605. Before getting her medication from the UPHS Pharmacy, Prej shares that she's been buying from National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) at a discounted price.

According to Prej, here's how members of the UP community can receive their needed medication for free from UP Health Service:

  • Book a consultation through uphs.appointlet.com
  • Print the prescription which will be given to you by the physician through e-mail
  • Show your prescription to the pharmacist from UP Health Service

According to UP Health Service, "out-patient psychiatric services are free for CURRENTLY ENROLLED students, faculty, and staff of the UP Diliman community. Some medications for mental health are available for free. Stocks are however limited."
