It has a whole new set of characters

In 2016, a Korean action and horror film Train To Busan was released. Up to this day, watching it will still keep you at the edge of your seat. Imagine getting stuck in a train full of zombies chasing you, that’s scary AF. But seeing Gong Yoo made the jump scare and mini heart attack moments worth it.

This year, director Yeon Sang-ho released a sequel entitled Peninsula. Here are some things you need to know about the movie if you loved the OG (spoiler alert, fyi):

They name it Peninsula because there's nothing left after the zombie outbreak.

According to director Yeon Sang-ho, “Government authority has been decimated after the zombie outbreak in Korea, and there is nothing left except the geographical traits of the location – which is why the film is called Peninsula."

It's set four years after the *outbreak* in Busan.

The sequel takes place four years after the events that happened in the first film.

But it's NOT a direct sequel to Train To Busan and has a whole new set of characters

It centers around a group of people trying to escape a zombie-infected Peninsula while encountering a group of military soldiers who will become a bigger threat than the actual zombies. With Kang Dong Won as Jung Suk and Do Yoon as Chul Min Kim as the main characters. Yup, Gong Yoo is out. He died in the first film, remember?

The production had a budget of $16M

It's almost twice the budget of Train To Busan. According to Soompi.comThe detailed background of the film has been worked on for "nearly a year by director Yeon Sang Ho and his team of 250 visual effects producers. To tempt the zombies who are sensitive to light and sound, the film will utilize extravagant RC cars and car chasing to heighten the pace of the plot and intensity." So it means that the cinematography of Peninsula is reaaaally good.

Peninsula premiered in Korean cinemas on July 15 but no dates for the worldwide premiere have been released yet.
