TikTok Reacts to Instagram's Latest Update Called 'Reels'

Instagram rolled out a new video update.

On August 5, Instagram announced its latest update called 'Reels' which they described as "a new way to create and discover short, entertaining videos."

Basically, you can "record and edit 15-second multi-clip videos with audio, effects, and new creative tools" and share them with your followers on your Feed. Avid social media users found the app update a bit reminiscent of TikTok, a video-sharing platform that operates similarly to the Insta's new features.

To add to that, it wasn't just regular users who found the similarity a bit uncanny, but also TikTok itself! On August 7, the Twitter account of TikTok (@tiktok_us) retweeted Instagram's tweet about Reels and added a rather playful comment, saying, "well... this looks familiar [thinking face emoji][winking face emoji]"

Instagram has yet to reply or comment about it as of writing. The Reels feature is now available in more than 50 countries though. What do you think, did TikTok just throw shade at Instagram over their new update or is it all part of playful banter?
