If you spent an unreasonably excessive amount of time on TikTok, you might have chanced upon one of Cebu Pacific flight attendant Jen Barangan's clips. If not, then you've probably seen someone duet one of her TikToks (especially aspiring flight attendants who tried out Jen's FA spiel of Cebu Pacific).

Aside from the popular app, Jen also uploads vlogs on her YouTube channel to give a peek at her life as a flight attendant and inspire those who also dream of becoming one in the future. Her most recent upload, however, is a bit on the heartbreaking side.

In her latest vlog, Jen shares that she lost her job during the pandemic. "I'm no longer a flight attendant. I just lost the job that I dearly love." Ever since the pandemic began, local and international flights have been limited to only essential travel, putting the airline industry in a vulnerable state. Like other industries, airline companies have also had to implement layoffs.

Accidentally finding out about the news

Jen also detailed how she accidentally found out about the news before the official announcement and how extra disheartening it was to bear the news while alone in quarantine in Cebu. Jen shares that she got sent an e-mail by mistake with her company's retrenchment plans during the pandemic, which was how she first heard of the news.

While nothing's official yet, however, Jen had to perform her FA duties and fly back to Manila despite knowing her fate. "It felt like I was in a relationship with someone, and I already know that my partner has already fallen out of love towards me but I still stayed because I love him so much," she shares.

Staying hopeful

Aside from losing a source of income, Jen initially shared that she felt scared of losing her viewers because she was "no longer part of the industry that they want to be in." Despite getting emotional during the video, the former flight attendant managed to end it on a lighter note. She shared that she was thankful for the three years she spent with Cebu Pacific, for the experience and the lessons she learned, and for the people she met along the way. "This is something that I did not plan. I did not see this coming, but I know God has plans for me."
