Ever wondered what the MTV Video Music Awards was like a decade ago? To celebrate today's awards show, we decided to take you to a trip down the VMAs memory lane and show you what was totes hot when you were younger—or maybe when you weren't born yet, LOL—in the music world. Brace yourselves for a few minutes of funky outfits and a few hilarious numbers as we present to you some of the best performances and our favorite winners from the MTV VMAs in 2005.
1 The Killers performed their hit song "Mr. Brightside" during the show.
2 Kelly Clarkson's powerful breakup anthem "Since U Been Gone" took home the awards for Best Female Video and Best Pop Video.
3 Meanwhile, Kanye West's music video for "Jesus Walks" bagged the Best Male Video award.
4 Mariah Carey gave a live performance of her hit songs "Shake It Off" and "We Belong Together" with Jadakiss and Jermaine Dupri.
5 Green Day's music video for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" was named Best Group Video and Best Rock Video. It also took home the awards for Best Direction in a Video, Best Editing in a Video, and Best Cinematography in a Video.
6 Alicia Keys' catchy track "Karma" took home the award for Best R&B Video.
7 Missy Elliott's music video for "Lose Control" with Ciara and Fatman Scoop was named Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Dance Video.
8 For that year's Best Choreography in a Video, The Voice coach Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" bagged the award.
9 Green Day had a huge year at the MTV VMAs. They didn't only win awards for their song "Boulevard of Broken Dreams." They also took home the Viewers' Choice award for their "American Idiot" music video.
