Citizens Complain When A Siren From 'The Purge' Is Used To Signal Curfew In The USA

To be fair, it was an honest mistake.

Residents from the city of Crowley in Acadia Parish, Louisiana, United States reportedly complained when a siren that sounded very much like the one used in the 2013 film The Purge was used to signal their 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew. The curfew was established in order to control the spread of COVID-19.

A report from local news site KATC said: "In an effort to alert residents to the parish-wide curfew in Acadia Parish, Crowley Police rode around town broadcasting an alarm signal, but it's not what anyone expected."

Here's a video of the actual moment the siren was used:

The police department has since apologized for using the siren. It seems like it was an honest mistake because Crowley Police Chief Jimmy Broussard said he wasn't aware that the siren had been used in the film. He clarified that the police will not be using any kind of siren moving forward.

As it turns out, this has also happened in the Philippines! An ~*official*~ "curfew announcement" video from Barangay Bularit in Gerona, Tarlac is even inspired by The Purge.

In the film, the "siren" signals the start of The Purge. An official announcement is released, saying: "This is your emergency broadcast system announcing the commencement of the annual purge. At the siren, all emergency services will be suspended for 12 hours. Your government thanks you for your participation."

The film has several sequels and a prequel, namely, The Purge: Anarchy (2014), The Purge: Election Year (2016), and The First Purge (2018).
