It was on the July 16 episode of Eat Bulaga when the whole country witnessed the first #AlDub encounter. Back then, they weren't even a pair yet. Maine Mendoza, then known as viral sensation Yaya Dub, lost character during one scene after seeing Alden on screen. This small goof turned out to be the birth of one of the hottest loveteams of 2015. Since the premiere of AlDub, the segment itself (with the help of comic triumvirate of Jose, Wally, and Paolo) has been a must-watch habit every afternoon. The pinnacle event Tamang Panahon last October 24 became the peak of the whole Kalyeserye adventure. The whole episode, which felt like a fairy tale, featured no commercial breaks and has garnered 41 million tweets, the most for any event in the world.
2. JaDine's primetime debut, On the Wings of Love
After proving their box office success, it's time for James Reid and Nadine Lustre to conquer the boob tube with their first primetime offering. With the hugot director Antoinette Jadaone leading the way, On the Wings of Love premiered last August 10. Since then, the show has been a ratings juggernaut, trending on Twitter every night, and getting the critics' approval with great reviews. OTWOL proves that there's a spot in primetime for a different kind of teleserye whose refreshing quality stands out among the rest. More than that, it has made one of our favorite pairings, JaDine, not only household names, and has established that they are here to stay.
3. Ariana Grande, 1D, Ed Sheeran, and Sam Smith visited the Philippines
2015 has been a pretty good year in terms of our favorite international superstars visiting our shores and experiencing the Filipino hospitality as they grace the country for their much-awaited concerts. Last March 12, Ed Sheeran performed at the Mall of Asia Arena his notable hits including our favorite "Thinking Out Loud." On March 21 and 22, it was One Direction's turn to serenade all the Directioners with their special two-night concert. Arianators enjoyed the Manila stop of The Honeymoon Tour last August when Ariana Grande sang to us all of her hits from "Problem" to "Bang Bang." And just a few weeks ago, Sam Smith's close to perfection vocals soared high in his sold-out concert. 2016's proving to be a good one too with The Vamps and 5 Seconds of Summer visiting here as well!
4. The Pangako Sa 'Yo 2015 remake
It was in 2000 when Jericho Rosales and Kristine Hermosa dominated the country with Pangako Sa 'Yo which is still considered as one of the most iconic teleseryes in Philippine TV history. Fifteen years later, there isn't any loveteam more fitting to do the remake than teen king and teen queen Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo playing the roles of Angelo Buenavista and Yna Macaspac respectively. The remake did not only introduce the show to a younger generation, but has also served as a platform for a more mature KathNiel, much to the delight of their fans all over the world (including us!).
5. Heneral Luna fever
In this day and age when technology has mostly taken our everyday lives, it is refreshing when we see important stories take the spotlight. And there isn't a history lesson this year that was more effective than what Heneral Luna brought to us. This biopic, directed by Jerrold Tarog, featured the story of underrated hero General Antonio Luna. Heneral Luna's biggest achievement is that it captured the interest of the Filipinos with our own country's history. Now we can't wait for the Gregorio del Pilar biopic starring the gre-gorgeous Paulo Avelino!
6. LizQuen as major movie stars in Just the Way You Are and Everyday I Love You
