Squid Game remains at the number one spot not only in Netflix Philippines' Top 10 but also in the streaming platform's global chart. Additionally, investment stocks related to it are raking in profits. As the K-drama continues to reach milestones, it's also caught in a controversy involving the phone numbers featured in the show.

In episode one of Squid Game, we saw Gong Yoo's character handing out a calling card to Gi Hoon (Lee Jung Jae) at the train station, with an eight-digit number printed on it. While some series use a made-up number, this one exists in real life and the owner has been receiving multiple prank calls.

According to a report by The Korea Herald, a victim, who has been using the number for a decade, came forward and revealed what happened: "Some 4,000 phone calls come in every day. I did not even realize what was going on as I did not watch the series. Someone who prank called me told me that the number was featured on the show."

In an interview with SBS News, another individual named Kim Gil Young spoke up about the prank calls she has been getting. One of them said that he has 1.2 billion won (around P51 million) of debt and he wants to join the game. Gil Young further added that a source from Squid Game's production company, Siren Pictures, offered to compensate her with 1 million won (around P43,000).

In response to the issues, Netflix and Siren Pictures have announced that they are aware of the problem and they are trying to contact the victims.
