The Hallyu fever has been pretty prevalent in the country for years now—from TV, food, fashion, beauty, and especially music. Fun fact: Since 2014, K-pop music has been streamed for a whopping 134 billion minutes on music streaming platform Spotify alone. Daebak!
In the Philippines, K-pop is on a steady rise. In the past 90 days, the PH is the third country who streamed K-pop music the most! Among the most streamed K-pop artists on Spotify in the Philippines—and remarkably the only solo artist who made it to the top 10—is idol-turned-actress IU. No surprises there, because what’s not to love about the 26-year-old?
In December 2019, IU successfully concluded the tour for her latest album Love Poem, which included a successful show in Manila. She recently dropped “I Give You My Heart,” an OST for the 2020 hit K-drama Crash Landing On You. Soompi even reported that the song received a “perfect all-kill,” which means it became number one on all of the major daily and real-time South Korean music charts.
Aside from her music, IU is well-respected and admired for acting, too! Her last drama Hotel Del Luna also received positive response from fans and had the highest ratings for a tvN drama in 2019.
Aside from IU, heavyweight groups like BTS, BLACKPINK, TWICE, and BIGBANG are also among the most streamed K-pop artists in the country. Check out the full list below:
