On the evening of April 12, 2020, Chief Implementer of the National Task Force for COVID-19 Carlito Galvez, Jr. held a briefing regarding the government’s efforts in controlling the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.
In his briefing, Galvez mentioned that the Philippines now has 15 COVID-19 testing facilities and 2,673 quarantine facilities across the country. He adds that the mass quarantine facilities are expected to be operational in the coming week. Galvez also highlighted the importance of “aggressive and targeted testing,” saying that this will be the country’s game-changer against COVID-19. Mass testing in Metro Manila is expected to begin, with Valenzuela City already rolling out its efforts. Galvez further added that the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) measures have greatly helped in containing the spread.
He also encouraged the public to avoid going out if it isn’t necessary, “Bawal muna ang inuman at barkadahan.” Galvez ends the briefing with the message, “Love will conquer all, even COVID-19.”
As of 4 p.m. of April 12, the Department of Health (DOH) reports that the Philippines has 4,648 total confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 40 new recovered cases and 50 new deaths.
