Proving he’s in it to win it, 17-year-old Scotty McCreery beat fellow country crooner Lauren Alaina, 16, in the grand finale of American Idol today in the Kodak Theater, Los Angeles. Scotty, who was never in danger of elimination, got more of the over 122 million votes for the Top 2, the youngest match-up ever in Idol history.
"I never in my wildest dreams... I've got to thank the Lord first... He got me here,” said the North Carolina native.
Yesterday, Scotty showed off his signature deep voice with covers of "Gone," "Check Yes Or No," and the original song "Love You This Big." On the other hand, Lauren covered "Maybe It Was Memphis" and "Flat On The Floor," and sang the original tune "Like My Mother Does."
