When P-pop boy band SB19 sang, "We gonna go up," they really meant it. The five-member group composed of Sejun, Josh, Stell, Ken, and Justin just reclaimed the second spot at Billboard's Social 50 Chart.
Bilboard's Social 50 Chart is a weekly chart that ranks artists all over the world based on their popularity on various platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Wikipedia. SB19 first made it to the said chart last year, taking the 28th spot. They continued to rise through the ranks over the months, until they reached the second spot in August 2020.
This week, the boys have once again ranked second on the said chart, just behind global sensation BTS who currently holds the longest record for being at the top spot for 195 consecutive weeks.
So far, the P-pop group has spent 39 weeks on the social chart. An impressive feat, given that the Social 50 Chart is often dominated by powerhouse Western acts like Cardi B, Justin Bieber, and One Direction as well as popular K-pop groups like BLACKPINK, Stray Kids, NCT, and EXO. To date, SB19 is the only Filipino music act and the first Southeast Asian act to ever enter the top 10 of Billboard's social chart.Â
The group has earned a dedicated fanbase called A'TIN after debuting in 2018 and releasing songs like "Tilaluha," "Go Up," and "Alab." The five members were trained by Korean management company ShowBT and have been signed under Sony Music Philippines since 2019.
