This might surprise you, butReply 1988wasn't actually filmed in Ssangmun-dong, Seoul. The iconic street where our favorite K-drama families lived was actually a setbuilt in Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province. According toSoompi, the set was supposed to be preserved as a tourist attraction, but because it was built near the Uijeongbu Stadium, "there was a limit to letting it remain as a tourist attraction or as a set for other dramas." So...it was actually demolished! Don't worry, according to the site Korean Dramaland, there are many Reply 1988 locations you can still visit:
Remember when Jung Hwan realized he ~lost his chance~? He was only late for a few seconds, but Taek was already there for Deok Sun! According to Korean Dramaland, the heartbreaking scene was filmed outside the Uijeongbu Arts Center.
Deok Sun, Maggie, and Joey's favorite place is a store called Brazilian Tteokbokki. It's also where her friends told poor Deok Sun that Sun Woo liked her even though he was actually crushing on her older sister. Guess what? The *actual* store's walls are even filled with Reply 1988 memorabilia.
Remember when Jung Hwan's whole family went out to dinner for his mom's birthday? The exact restaurant, according to fans, isEngland Tonkatsu or England King Pork Cutlet, which was established in the 1980s.
It's one of the oldest movie theaters in South Korea! In Reply 1988, it's where Dong Ryong and Jung Hwan go to see a movie in Episode 18, but Jung Hwan leaves all of a sudden to go after Deok Sun.
