She may have been known as the Kawaii Daughter of Japan, but Kaori Oinuma's stay at Bahay ni Kuya and the things she's accomplished afterwards have proven that she's more than just a pretty face.
Kaori, born on July 22, 2000, is only 20 years old, but she's already got a promising career ahead of her. Right after her exit from PBB, Kaori immediately landed a role in the teleserye Parasite Island starring Rafael Rosell, Bernard Palanca, Michael Flores, Bianca Manalo, Ria Atayde, and Desiree del Valle.
She is also part of the main cast of Star Cinema's digital project The Four Boys and Me, based on the popular Wattpad story of the same name. Kaori stars as Candice and worked alongside fellow PBB housemate Rhys Miguel, Jeremiah Lisbo, Mark Rivera, and Aljohn Mendoza.
Aside from acting, Kaori has also been chosen as one of the faces of local clothing brand Apartment 8. Here are other things to know about the rising star:
Kaori was born in Japan.
Kaori was born to a Filipino mother and a Japanese father. She lived in Japan until she was four years old before moving to the Philippines. When Kaori was 13, she and her mother moved back to Japan where her mother worked as a caregiver. At that time, Kaori did not know how to speak Japanese which made it difficult for her to communicate and interact in school. The communication barrier led to her being alone most of the time. Eventually, she was able to learn the language and make friends when she was in senior high school.
Kaori has two half-siblings in the PH.
She has a sister and a brother on her mother's side. Kaori has mentioned that her kuya is really protective of them, especially when it comes to potential suitors. "Makita nga lang niyang meron akong kausap na lalaki... 'Sino 'yan? sino 'yan? Patingin nga!' gano'n!" Kaori says. They are currently based in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija. Kaori also has half-siblings on her father's side who has his own family in Japan.
She worked as a caregiver at 16.
During an interview on Tonight with Boy Abunda, Kaori opened up about having to work at a young age. While she was living in Japan with her mother, Kaori decided to help out by working as a caregiver during a summer break from school (she was 16 years old at that time). She gives the income she was able to earn from the job to her siblings to help with their education and other expenses.
Fans think Kaori looks like a Korean star.
Kaori is Filipino-Japanese, but many of her fans, including TV host Boy Abunda himself, have noticed that she resembles popular South Korean star Jun Ji Hyun (My Love from the Star, Legend of the Blue Sea, My Sassy Girl, Kingdom).
Kaori plays basketball and badminton. She's also mentioned that she likes to run. Many might assume that Kaori is tall based on her IG photos, but Kaori has officially set the record straight and said that she's actually only 5'5". Despite this, Kaori was on the basketball varsity team when she was in high school.
She has a YouTube channel.
Kaori opened a YouTube channel to give her fans a sneak peek of her life when she is not working. She has all sorts of vlogs on her channel, from a day in the life video entries to a mukbang. Currently, the channel has five videos and over 200 thousand subscribers.
Kaori likes to play Mobile Legends.
Kaori is a fan of the video game Mobile Legends. She also said in one of her vlogs that the people she lives with at home, aka her sister and her cousins, are avid players of the game. Her friends in Japan are also huge gamers. "Sila po kasi laging nagbubuhat sa akin. Yung kahit inis na inis na sila sa akin kasi hindi ako marunong, binubuhat pa rin nila ako," she shares in a mukbang video.
Kaori likes spicy food.
Not many can handle spicy food, but Kaori said she loves them! She's also a huge fan of Japanese food. Her favorites are ramen and sushi. Here's a mukbang vlog Kaori made featuring Japanese cuisine.
