Former Philippine president Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III passed away on June 24, 2021 at the age of 61. The only son of former senator Benigno Aquino Jr. and former president Corazon Aquino, Noynoy served as the 15th president of the Philippines.
Aside from being a public figure, many know that Noynoy was a true-blue Atenean. He graduated from Ateneo Grade School, Ateneo High School, and eventually Ateneo de Manila University where he majored in Economics. During a 2015 guest appearance on the ABS-CBN program Gandang Gabi Vice hosted by comedian Vice Ganda, the then-president looked back on his days in his alma mater.
During the interview, host Vice Ganda showed a photo of the former president's grade school year book and noticed the lack of school activities listed on his page. According to Noynoy, he had one extracurricular activity as the president of the biology club back in grade school, but only because his mother, former president Corazon Aquino, insisted on it. Aside from that, Noynoy mentioned that he was not as active in organizations in school because he had to use the allotted time for those activities to visit his father who was in prison at that time. "Yung activity day ay Wednesday, e doon kami dumadalaw sa daddy," the former president briefly explained.
Aside from his grade school years, Noynoy also reminisced about his college days during the interview, noting that his predecessor Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was his professor in Economics and that he managed to get a B+ in her class despite the challenging school requirements.
