Oh no, what just happened? After the nominees for the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards were announced last night, Nicki Minaj took to Twitter to talk about her feelings about her noms for Best Female Music Video for "Anaconda," Best Hip Hop Video for "Anaconda," and Best Collaboration with Ariana Grande and Jessie J for "Bang Bang." Apparently, the hitmaker was disappointed that "Anaconda," which broke records during its release in August 2014 and "Feeling Myself," which she did with Beyonce weren't included in the noms. Hey guys @MTV thank you for my nominations. 😘😘😘 Did Feeling Myself miss the deadline or...?— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
If I was a different "kind" of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well. 😊😊😊— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
"Anaconda,"to be fair, has earned its rightful place in pop culture. You can't Google about it and miss all the memes that were made in its honor.
U couldn't go on social media w/o seeing ppl doing the cover art, choreo, outfits for Halloween...an impact like that & no VOTY nomination?— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWFeatured Video
When the "other" girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
What probably surprised a few users was how some of Nicki's tweets seemed to address one Video of the Year nominee—Taylor Swift, who was nominated in the category for "Bad Blood." Tay-Tay took the tweet personally and replied to the "Anaconda" hitmaker.
@NICKIMINAJ I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..— Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) July 21, 2015ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
But it seems like there was just some misinterpretation in the comments because to be fair, Nicki also clarified her points and made it clear that her stand wasn't about Taylor.
I'm not always confident. Just tired. Black women influence pop culture so much but are rarely rewarded for it. https://t.co/2xOvJzBXJX— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this. @taylorswift13— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
Nothing I said had to do with Taylor. So what jabs? White media and their tactics. So sad. That's what they want. https://t.co/AfcwoyDvpg— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
Taylor tried to smooth things out...
@NICKIMINAJ If I win, please come up with me!! You're invited to any stage I'm ever on.— Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) July 21, 2015ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
But instead, Nicki thanked everyone for understanding where she's coming from and what her reasons are for airing her side of the story.
I'm so glad u guys get to see how this stuff works. Taylor took her music off spotify and was applauded. We launched Tidal & were dragged.— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
We just hope these two amazing women sort things out soon.
