As the country continues its battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, every city has its own localized efforts to support their respective communities. In Pasig City, cash aids are being given to families who weren’t part of the national government’s Social Amelioration Program (SAP). Pasig’s supplementary SAP aims to provide P8,000 worth of financial assistance to around 150,000 families in the city. The program is being conducted on a house-to-house distribution by the city government employees so individuals won’t need to leave their homes to receive the cash assistance.
While he’s in charge of spearheading the city government’s efforts, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto doesn’t forget that he isn’t alone in putting in the effort to help out Pasig’s residents. In a tweet on June 10, 2020, one netizen from Pasig City shared how impressed they were with the distribution of cash aid in their area and thanked the mayor. “My senior citizen and PWD mom received her 8,000 pesos in less than an hour. The efficient and very friendly city hall employees made my mom's experience nice and easy,” the tweet reads.
In response, the Pasig City mayor asked for the OP’s barangay so he could personally praise the team in charge. Netizens expressed admiration for the mayor’s little deed in the Twitter replies, saying that he gives credit where it is due, and praised the mayor’s leadership style.
While we commend our respective government officials for their own efforts to support the people, it's also nice to keep in mind that there are others working just as hard behind the scenes to help.
