On Thursday, January 6, tactical shooter game Valorant, published and developed by Riot Games, welcomed their newest *Filipino* agent, Neon, into the game’s universe.
Neon, the first of more exciting news to come, is voiced by Philippine-based Filipino voice actress Vanille Velasquez, marking the first-ever Filipino voice actress for the game.
Vanille also revealed on Twitter that Riot Games gave her "free rein" over the improvisation of Neon's Tagalog lines. "I take it as a responsibility and I’m so honored they trusted me," Vanille shared.
In the trailer for the first Filipino character of the game, Neon’s first words are “Home sweet home,” followed by the classic, ever-Filipino, “Hay, buhay,” (Oh, life) as she lays on her bed.
Soon after, Ylona Garcia’s newest single, “Entertain Me”, plays in the background as the agent hits play on her own device. Glad to know Ylona is taking over everyone's playlists even in the virtual world of video games!
After the announcement, the 19-year-old singer took to Twitter to interact and thank fans for their support.
The debut of Valorant’s 19th agent comes in anticipation of the game’s latest update, Episode 4: Disruption, set to drop later this month.
