The newly-crowned Miss Universe 2015 was only 11 years old when she graced the cover of Candy in 2001. Here's a throwback to her pre-teen years, already looking like a beauty queen!
Meet Candy's youngest cover girl, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. This tall and pretty was only 11 years old when she first caught our eye in an Avon ad (which you most probably have seen in Candy!) Although she was just in her pre-teens, Pia proved that she's definitely not a kid.

Be Brave, Little One. When asked to name her favorite fairy tale, Pia promptly answers Mulan! She excitedly explains that she admires the legendary Chinese girl-turned-soldier because of her courage and bravery. In the cartoon, Mulan proved that even if her sex prevented her from becoming a soldier, she had the brains and the determination to outsmart any guy—even the terrifying Hun! Way to go, girl!
-
Rap Sistah! Pia has her share of pop favorites but what really gets her going is rap music! Her eyes light up as she enumerates her fave rap artists. Among them are Eminem and the Baha Men, whose CDs are currently spinning in her player. She confesses that unlike most people who catch themselves humming or singing a song unconsciously, she often finds herself rapping!

Say What? Wondering where our cover girl got her last name? (We even had to ask her to spell it out for us!) It's German! Born to a German father and Filipina mother, this charming girl can whip up a mean conversation in fluent German! Pia also likes visiting Germany for the holidays, and the thing she loves best about the country is the snow!
-
Glamour Girl. Aside from appearing in an ad, Pia has taken her first step towards the glitz and glamour of show business. She has appeared in three episodes of the pop teen show Click! But it wasn't all that chic for her in the beginning. "At the start, I was very nervous. But as we did the taping, I got the hang of it and by the end of the shooting, I realized that I actually enjoyed it!"
-
Getting Wired. Pia is addicted to chatting on the internet and playing games on her Play Station. She's been a frequent chatter on mIRC for over two years and just adores a lot of adventure games and RPGs like Tekken and Tomb Raider. Now who said these games were made for boys only?
Pia may look like the sweetest girl you've ever laid eyes on, but with heroines like Mulan and Lara Croft, we know that deep inside is a young woman ready to kick some ass!
-
Virtual Fighter. Pia loves giving her thumbs a workout on her Play Station!

Such a doll-ing! At our shoot, Pia looked even more angelic than her favorite doll.
This first appeared in the May 2001 issue of Candy. Congratulations, Pia!
