We all know Melizza Jimenez as a triple-threat talent, but there’s more to her than being an up-and-coming multi-hyphenate. Not only can Melizza sing, act, and dance—she’s also a sincere songwriter, a well-traveled adventurer, and a hard working student. Only 21 years old, this young talent will undoubtedly be one of the country’s most sought-after A-listers in just a few years.

1. Melizza almost became a Pinoy Big Brother housemate.
In several past interviews, Melizza shared that she initially wanted to launch her showbiz career through Pinoy Big Brother because she’s been a long-time fan of the reality game show. She unfortunately didn’t pass the show’s final audition in 2015, but ABS-CBN producers advised her to try out for Star Magic Circle next. From there, Melizza became an artist trainee and made her acting debut as Macky in Barcelona: A Love Untold a year later. She has now appeared in other blockbusters like The Killer Bride, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, and He’s Into Her. Now five years since her first acting project, the KathNiel fan wants to try being in a love team.
2. Apart from being an actress, Melizza is also a singer-songwriter.
Inspired by new wave '80s music and various pop icons like Halsey and Ariana Grande, Melizza has been passionate about music and poetry since she was young. Even when she was rejected by her school’s Glee Club in middle school, Melizza continued to sing and write music because she wanted to empower fellow women to brave their hardships in life. Her efforts eventually bore fruit and she released her first-ever single "Always" in 2020. Following its widespread success, she released two more songs called "Killer Boy" and "Lovers Club" last year.
3. Melizza is an overachiever at school.
Amidst juggling her responsibilities as a Star Magic trainee in 2019, Melizza graduated high school with honors from Colegio San Agustin. And if that’s not impressive enough, she was also a varsity lawn tennis player and part of her school’s top 20 roster. She even founded and led a school organization for rescuing animals!
After graduating high school, Melizza decided to take a gap year to focus on her acting and songwriting. Now, she’s taking up a Double Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Communication at Queensland University of Technology from a remote setup.
4. Melizza loves to vlog about her travel experiences.
ICYDK, Melizza has a YouTube channel with over 80,000 subscribers! There, she posts a ton of relaxing and *aesthetic* travel vlogs, from her Los Angeles detours to her Boracay beach trips. Once, she even vlogged about her experience flying alone abroad for the first time. (Spoiler alert: It was so overwhelming that she nearly cried, but New York city life made it all worth it in the end.) When asked about her favorite country, she revealed that she sees Australia as her “second home.” She also shared that the other countries in her bucket list are Egypt, Greece, and Maldives.
5. Melizza’s sister is Maika Rivera.
Not a lot of people know this, but tennis player and actress Maika Rivera is actually Melizza’s older sister. In an interview last year, the siblings shared that they’re close to each other despite having a five-year age gap. In fact, they even auditioned for PBB and Star Magic together! When asked about why they have different last names, the pair explained that they chose not to debut at the same time to avoid being compared to each other.
“Sa industry usually, kapag magkapatid naco-compare, so [ABS-CBN] decided for our benefit na hindi muna kami i-launch na together or magkapatid,” Melizza explained. “For the longest time, we were kind of hiding it and not really showing it. But now, slowly na nangyayari ito, we’re so happy,” Maika added.
6. Melizza is a self-confessed old soul.
If you’ve watched Melizza’s most recent room tour, you’d know that she loves to collect vinyls, books, comics, and vintage photos. The bookworm once mentioned that she dreams of building an at-home library filled with her favorite books like the Hunger Games trilogy, the Harry Potter series, and the Percy Jackson series. She’s also a big fan of reading DC Comics such as The Flash, Wonder Woman, and Superman!
