Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic started, we saw mayors come together to implement best practices from other cities, especially if they see these initiatives potentially working in their own respective localities.

One such mayor that believes in the "kopyahan" of best practices is Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso. In an interview with Summit Media editors, the mayor shared his thoughts about adopting plans of other leaders.

"Yung qualities... Yung mga puwedeng kopyahin sa kultura natin, sa mga tradisyon natin, kostumbre natin, ay ina-apply natin," the mayor says. He also talked about the opportunity he was given to learn about the British government's plans for the country's COVID-19 response. "I was just fortunate to be with the head of the COBRA. I was sent by the British government to London in February 2020 to meet with the COBRA or Corona British Response Agency. When I got the plan, the country's plan, I went home immediately and copied some."

"I do copy, yes. I do believe in... kung gumagana e 'di kopyahin," the mayors adds.

Additionally, the Manila City mayor also gave a peek at the "team work" among the Metro Manila mayors. While not everyone will always agree with the ideas presented, a healthy exchange of thoughts allows them to move forward and come up with a plan they can all work with. "We argue in this room, kanya kanya kaming ideas but at the end of the day... In fairness to my fellow mayors. Kaya pag nagkaka-botohan, hindi namin ina-out. Gusto namin iparamdam kung ano yung nabotohan na lamang ng marami, sundan na lang muna namin para laging may plano. Para laging may direksyon at the very least. Tapos kanya kanya na kaming mag-implement sa aming city based on needs kasi iba-iba rin naman yung demographics namin."

In 2020, Mayor Vico Sotto of Pasig City once shared that he adopted Manila's Anti-Discrimination Due to Infectious Diseases Ordinance which Mayor Isko himself shared with them. The ordinance aims to penalize "any act of discrimination against patients screened for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), healthcare workers, volunteers, and other front-liners amid the virus outbreak."
