Celebrity twins Mavy and Cassy Legaspi are breaking into the local entertainment scene, one project at a time. But one thing's for sure, they're determined to make their own marks in showbiz while working hard towards earning a diploma. Mavy and Cassy have recently renewed their contracts with GMA Artist Center. They're also currently enrolled as college students, juggling tapings with online classes. Both are taking up business-related courses in college, with Mavy majoring in Business Management and Cassy in Business Marketing.
It's not as easy as it sounds, however, but Mavy and Cassy are willing to find ways to excel in both school and work. In an interview with Summit Media editors, Cassy tells Candy how she asked her parents if she could take a leave of absence (LOA) for a semester to focus on work.
"Nagpaalam ako sa mom ko na, 'Is it okay if I take a sem off? 'Cause I want to focus on my work first.' Sabi ni mama, 'After that go back to school.'" Cassy also shared her academic adventures during lock-in tapings where she had to write papers in between takes and enlist the help of her co-actors to film her for school projects.
The two also shared how different the approaches of parents Zoren Legaspi and Carmina Villarroel are when it comes to dealing with concerns about managing school and career. "Yung dad ko medyo... kung ano gusto mo, doon siya. Pero ma-career siya e, my dad," Mavy shares. "Mom ko kasi, nag-college kasi 'yun tapos hindi niya natapos yung college so it was always a frustration sa kanya na 'di niya tinapos yung college 'cause she was already there na, so napunta rin yung dream niya sa'min."
According to Mavy, their mom is also just as supportive of their showbiz career as their dad, provided that they both also give enough importance to their studies, which they don't have to be reminded of because they also want the same thing. "Ever since na [my mom says], 'If you're gonna enter showbiz, kailangan mag-degree kayo.' And gusto rin namin naman e, it wasn't forced upon us. We really wanted to get a degree."
Mavy adds, "When it comes to things like that, yung mom ko gano'n. She's focused din sa career namin, but mahalaga sa kanya yung education. It's not an easy task but, kung may push ka, you know, magagawa mo siya."
