PSA: The voter registration period will officially end on September 30, and as of this writing, there are almost 62 million registered voters for 2022. And in case you were wondering what it's like to register these days, singer and actress Maris Racal has shared her experience on social media! She took to Instagram to post some photos...
...and recorded the experience on TikTok. Maris said she lined up at around 2:30 in the morning, accidentally brought the wrong tote bag, sat on the ground while waiting, and waved to a news reporter. Here's when things went *downhill*: At 8:00 a.m. she found out that she was in the wrong line for her district, and as a result, there were no more slots left. Not to be fazed, Maris lined up the next day at 2:30 a.m. yet again, and she was finally able to complete her registration! WE LOVE THE DEDICATION.
At the end of her vid, Maris said: "Sa lahat ng gustong magparehistro, maaga dapat kayong dumating. Mayroon pa tayong few days left so magparehistro na kayo guys."
There have been calls from the Senate to extend the voter registration period until October 31, 2021. Because of the recent enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), voter registration in some areas was suspended for several months, which could explain the long lines registrants like Maris have been experiencing. According to reportr: "the Comelec previously resolved to keep the deadline for voter registration on Sept. 30, saying that extending it would affect their preparations for the 2022 elections."
