Mapua Launches Fully Online Degree Programs with Cheaper Tuition Fees

In an effort to adapt to the new normal and help aspiring students who didn't have the opportunity to physically attend classes on campus even prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mapua University will be offering six bachelor's degree programs to be taken fully online for school year 2020 to 2021.
The six said programs approved by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) are:
- Computer Engineering
- Computer Science
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronics Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Information Technology
During a roundtable discussion with members of the media, Mapua University explains that the presence of the online undrgraduate programs aims to expand their reach to aspiring engineering and IT students even outside of NCR, as well as those who wish to pursue other commitments while earning a degree. They also hope to continue on with these fully online degree programs even after face-to-face classes resume.
Mapua University also assures interested applicants that the six online degree programs will still hold the same credentials and offer the same quality of education as their classroom-based counterparts.
Here are other things to expect from their fully online degree programs:
'Ubiquitous learning'
Through the fully online courses, learners will get to experience "ubiquitous learning" through recorded lectures and modules which they can access at any given time that's convenient for them. Through this, self-paced learning will be implemented so learners, especially working students, can attend to other commitments.
These online programs will also utilize tools like the Cardinal EDGE (Mapua's learning management system) and Coursera.
In preparation, Mapua University also made arrangements with local telecommunication companies to create more affordable prepaid and postpaid data packages for students of the online programs.
Career guidance
Aside from academics, online students can also get help with regards to other aspects of the student and college life. Learners may avail of other student services like accessing career and academic advising, career placement, and course scheduling.Â
Cheaper tuition
Now that the programs will be taken from home, the tuition fees will cost less because they will no longer include miscellaneous fees, laboratory fees, and utility fees which were usually computed as part of the total tuition for classroom-based degrees. According to Mapua University, the fully online bachelor’s degree programs will have tuition fees ranging from P25,000 to P30,000 per term based on a competitive per-unit rate of P1,750.
Students of these fully online programs will get to save a minimum amount of around P8,460 (Based on a tentative computation of fees for S.Y. 2018-2019 that's accessible from Mapua University's official website, miscellaneous fees* can cost around P8,460, This amount may not include laboratory fees and utility fees yet).
*Rates are subject to change.
