Ruffa Gutierrez is certainly one of the strongest single moms out there. The 47-year-old actress and entrepreneur might have had the challenge of raising her two kids with Turkish ex-husband Yilmaz Bektas alone, but she managed to stay successful while doing so!

In an interview with celebrity reporter Ogie Diaz, the former beauty queen talked more about her ~*parenting style*~ to Lorin Gutierrez and Venice Bektas. “Lagi ko sinasabi, ‘Lorin, Venice, you’re so lucky that I’m a cool mom, kasi if you lived the days of my mom sa akin, di [niyo] kakayanin talaga.'”

Poking fun at her mother Annabel Rama’s famous “tiger mom” attitude, she talked about how she's more toned down to her apos now. “[My mom] always has an opinion ever since I was a teenager. Now, she says it in a calmer, more playful way. ‘Lorin, Venice, wag kayo mag-boyfriend ah. Kung magka-boyfriend kayo, sampalin ko talaga ‘yan,'” she shares, laughing.

But if anything, she says her mom’s strictness informed her own parenting approach to her kids. “‘Narealize ko na if you set them free, they’ll keep coming back. Lalo mong hinihigpitan, lalo silang nagrerebelde. Yun ang pinagkaiba ko sa mommy ko. Mahigpit ako, but I let them explore and be independent.”

While she faced restrictions, she says she has no regrets about her own teenage days. “The best days talaga were our days. Walang social media, walang telepono. If my kids could experience those days, I’d be so happy.”

Recently, news broke about her kids’ rekindled relationship with their dad Yilmaz. How does she feel about it? “I think andyan pa rin talaga yung pain ng mga bata. That they grew up without a dad.

“Life could be worse, but I think that it’s in their hearts. And I hope one day, magkita sila, magkausap sila, and he can be a father to my kids,” she concluded.
