Typhoon Ulysses left several areas in Luzon in shambles after making landfall on the night of November 11. Areas in Metro Manila and Calabarzon were placed under Signals No. 2 and No. 3, with the typhoon packing maximum winds of 155 kph and 255 kph gusts. In the aftermath of strong winds and torrential pouring, several areas were left in immense flooding, leading local officials to put evacuation policies and rescue operations in effect. Several areas in Metro Manila have been submerged in floods, leaving residents to evacuate to higher grounds for safety.
In Marikina City, one of the areas in the metro that's severely devastated by the typhoon, several residents had to flee to their rooftops to avoid the rising levels of floods below. Others have braved the flooded streets to seek shelter in safer areas. Some have quipped that the flooding brought about by Typhoon Ulysses was reminiscent of the one caused by Typhoon Ondoy back in 2009.
Rescue operations are currently being conducted by the local government unit, but they are still in need of the necessary equipment to rescue those who are stuck on their rooftops. Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro says, "Ang tulong na kailangan namin, water assets ginagamit sa rescue operations."
Angelo Lantaco, a resident of Pasig City, updated his Facebook status to seek help from the local government after floods have entered their home, which is located near Ayala Malls Feliz. He adds, "Mayor Vico Sotto - kakapalan ko na face ko a. We need your help. May mga bata, sanggol, at senior sa bahay at kapitbahay namin. And I’m sure marami pa kaming mga nasalanta. Kapalit po nito ang lifetime service ko sa opisina ninyo." This is what their home looks like at the time of posting:
As of the morning of November 12, Typhoon Ulysses has begun to move further away from the vicinity of Luzon, according to an update by reportr. Heavy rains, however, are still to be expected in Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, and Tarlac. According to the same report, storm surge warnings are still raised over the coastal areas of Metro Manila, Quezon, Polillo Islands, Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, and Zambales.Â
