Leila Alcasid has come a long way since 2017, the year which marked her move to the Philippines after growing up as an *overachieving* teen in Australia. Who could forget her Candy cover feature, shot less than a month from her arrival, where she talks about how her high school experience led her to take an extended break in the Philippines, and how she didn't consider singing to be her strength at the time, especially compared to acting.
Since then, Leila has gone on to release an album with songs she wrote herself, land local endorsements, and grow a massive Instagram following thanks to her classic OOTDs and glimpses of life with her celebrity fam.
Below, nine things to know about the "Clouds" singer:
Her track was included in PARADISE RISING's debut mix tape.
PARADISE RISING is media collective 88rising's local label in partnership with Globe Telecom. In July 2020, the label released its debut mixtape called semilucent with tracks from local artists like Kiana Valenciano and Jason Dhakal. Leila Alcasid's "Clouds," recorded with fellow Tarsier Records artist Moophs, was also included in the EP.
Aside from Moophs, Leila has also collaborated with other artists such as fern. and her boyfriend, Curtismith.
Leila has been dating Mito Fabie aka Curstismith for a while now, so we're pretty sure he's had a huge effect on her music. In fact, Leila once admitted in an interview that "Spring," the first song she ever wrote and recorded, was actually a song for her beau.
Leila and rapper Curtismith have been dating since 2018.
Leila and Mito first met at one of his gigs, and acccording to Leila, she was the one who really liked him first. It wasn't until they bumped into each other in church later on though that the two formed a connection and ended up getting together. (via escapetothepalace.com)
While the two don't really share too much about their relationship, Leila's dad Ogie Alcasid once accidentally let it slip that the couple's anniversary is in August!
Leila is already making her mark as a fashion and beauty ~icon~.
From her foundation-free beauty look at the ABS-CBN Ball, stunning gowns in all the industry events she's been attending, and even casual OOTDs on Instagram, you can tell she's got a personal style that truly reflects her earthy and botanical aesthetic.
She gets beauty advice from her mom and stepmom.
Leila's mom is 1994 Miss Australia Michelle van Eimeren. According to Leila, her mom "was the first one to tell me to never sleep with your makeup on no matter how tired you are, or if you've been drinking, or whatever...
"It's probably one thing that I've stuck by. I never go to sleep without washing my face."
Her stepmom, Regine Velasquez, is also known for doing her own makeup even for major concerts. She even launched a makeup collection with BYS Cosmetics in 2020.
One of her tattoos is a drawing made by her mom.
Leila shared in an Instagram post that her mom actually drew the Japanese anemone flower on her arm.
It's not her only ink, though. As seen on her IG posts, the singer has other minimalist designs on her body.
Her fave subject was English!
Ogie's eldest has long admitted to enjoying school as a child and being quite the competitive student. She even joined a lot of sports and extra-curricular activities. When it comes to her favorite subject though, Leila reveals that she absolutely *loves* literature. "Reading and writing are my passions. I read books like it was an addiction from the moment I was old enough to comprehend the story, and started writing my own once I had the technique down. English was my absolute favorite subject,” she said in a previous interview.
She's a natural dog lover.
Her "study buddy" makes a regular appearance on her IG.
She's a family girl through and through.
It's no secret that Leila had to move to Australia because her parents separated when she was a kid. She left the Philippines when she was only five, and has been open about her journey of acceptance during several interviews about her family's modern setup.
In Regine's vlog about step-parenting, Leila even went into detail about how she did hold a bit of a grudge when she was a kid because she had to see much less of her dad. But over time, and by keeping an open mind, she and her parents were able to work through their issues and now they can all do things together and bond as a blended family.
"I'm very blessed to have four parents who are very open-minded... all of us have these different, unique relationships (with one another)."
