The boys’ love (BL) scene boomed in 2020, thanks to the Thai rom-com 2Gether: The Series. Local writers and directors showed that the emerging BL scene in the country is up-to-par with boys’ love media giants like Thailand and Japan. Among the notable homegrown BL series is Jun Robles Lana’s Gameboys, a web series where Kokoy De Santos plays a fan who pursues a live-stream gamer (played by Elijah Canlas).
Kokoy De Santos made people from all over the world fall for him as he seamlessly brought the character of Gavreel to life, making us swoon, laugh, and cry from episode to episode. But did you know that he’s already a seasoned actor at the young age of 23?
Here are 7 facts you absolutely need to know about Gen Z actor Kokoy De Santos:
Kokoy’s birthday is on May 15.
Born Ronald Marquez de Santos, Jr., Kokoy was born on May 15, 1998. He’s currently 23 years old and a Taurus. As a Taurus, Kokoy exemplifies dedication and warm-heartedness. His love for his family and friends are a testament to these traits.
Kokoy’s fans are called Kolokoys.
Kokoy calls his fans kolokoys. FYI, kolokoy roughly translates to “jokester” or “prankster.” Coincidentally, Kokoy prides himself in being a prankster so the fandom name is a perfect fit!
Kokoy is a Culinary Arts graduate.
The word “man of many talents” usually gets thrown around carelessly, but believe us when we say that Kokoy really is a man of many talents. Aside from his entertainment skills apparent in his songs, television and film roles, and his dancetoks (TikTok dances), he’s also a great cook!
And no, he’s not just a great cook because of his pure love for cooking. He received culinary training at Chef Logro’s Institute of Culinary and Kitchen Services in Cavite. He has a few videos of him proving his kitchen skills under his segment labeled “Cookoy” on YouTube.
Kokoy is very family-oriented.
This might be no secret to his Kolokoys, but Kokoy makes sure to include his family in whatever he does. Vlogs, social media posts, interviews? He’s sure to mention them whenever he gets the chance to. They wholeheartedly supported his dream of becoming a child actor. A look at Kokoy’s channel will tell you all you need to know about his relationship with his family; that their bond is genuine and unbreakable. He’s also a proud fur dad to their family’s shih tzu, Masa!
No wonder Kokoy seems like a guy who you’d want to be friends with—the De Santos family showers him with love! If this doesn’t convince you yet of how much of a family person Kokoy is, this vlog on his family sending off their father to return to his job will:
Kokoy would absolutely love to work with Elijah again.
Craving more of the kilig from the Gameboys franchise? You’re not alone. For the EliKoy fans out there, there is still hope for our favorite love team to reunite for a project. As real-life close friends, Kokoy and Elijah exhibit great chemistry. They have several vlogs together, and in one of the vlogs Kokoy surprised his Kolokoys by doing a Q&A video with his onscreen partner.
On one of the queries asking whether he would want to work with Elijah again, Kokoy did not hesitate to give his answer: “Oo naman!”
Kokoy is a certified fashionista.
In one of his vlogs, Kokoy revealed that he loves collecting sneakers. As a sneakerhead (aka a person who absolutely loves all things sneakers), he used to spend a lot of money buying shoes to the point that he was practically hoarding them. Now, he’s learned to control his spending and only focus on buying the shoes he really needs (i.e., Vans, Chuck Taylors, etc.).
While he does love shopping for clothes at famous brands like Uniqlo and Zara, he is also an ukay enthusiast. The coronavirus scare hindered him from going to thrift shops, but he often shopped for clothes at ukay-ukay stores before the pandemic struck.
Kokoy’s first project was an MMK episode.
Gameboys might be one of the most successful BL series in the Philippines, if not already in the whole world. The series truly deserves its nomination at this year’s International Emmy Awards under the “Kids - Live Action” category.
Undeniably, Kokoy’s popularity shot up through Gameboys. But ICYDK, he’s also a child actor who’s been in the industry for a long time! He’s been acting in TV commercials, like the “Macho Gwapito” commercial for Lucky Me Pancit Canton and the Bear Brand commercial on the iconic chocolate milk debate (“choco na gatas” o “gatas na choco”?).
But his first appearance on a television show was on the drama anthology show Maalaala Mo Kaya, which he did when he was around 10 years old. Many more show guestings followed after that one, and we don’t think they’re going to end anytime soon.
Kokoy also stars in Dreamscape Entertainment’s series Oh, Mando!, the 2019 Cinemalaya film F#*@BOIS, and the award-winning film Some Nights I Feel Like Walking, the country’s entry to the Cannes L’Atelier 2020 which stars both Kokoy De Santos and Elijah Canlas! Kokoy might be a seasoned actor, but his journey in the showbiz industry is far from ending.
