K-Drama Actors Who Started Out As The Second Lead
There are many possible reasons why avid K-drama enthusiasts often get the second lead syndrome, and of them could be because the actor who plays the second lead pretty much deserves to play the leading man, too. Well, good thing that many of our beloved second leads finally got the spotlight they deserve when they landed main roles.
Kim Woo Bin
As the resident chaebol bully of Jeguk High School, Kim Woo Bin made fans love and hate his character in The Heirs at the same time. Despite starring alongside Lee Min Ho and Park Shin Hye, Kim Woo Bin made it hard to root for the lead role for many of the show's fans.
Three years after the drama aired, Kim Woo Bin landed his first lead role in Uncontrollably Fond where he was paired with Bae Suzy.
Jung Hae In
From headlining dramas like Something In The Rain, One Spring Night, and A Piece of Your Mind, Jung Hae In is a staple on the list of favorite K-drama leads. But before he played the leading man, the charming actor first caught everyone's hearts as the second lead in While You Were Sleeping.
Kim Jung Hyun
Who could forget Gu Seung Jun of Crash Landing On You, a K-drama everyone (and their moms and dads) have watched? We all loved his chemistry with Seo Ji Hye (to the point that he even made a cameo in her new drama). Well, right after CLOY ended, Kim Jung Hyun landed a lead role in the upcoming historical drama Queen Cheorin.
Park Hyung Sik
The K-pop idol turned actor played second lead roles in dramas like High Society and Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth. In his latest K-drama stint, Park Hyung Sik played the lead role in the South Korean adaptation of Suits (Yes, he was practically the equivalent of Patrick J. Adams).
Ryu Jun Yeol
Ryu Jun Yeol's role in Reply 1988 could possibly be one of the most note-worthy second lead roles ever in K-drama history. But thankfully, he went on to play the leading man in the K-drama Lucky Romance.
Park Seo Joon
One of the most popular Hallyu leading men nowadays is undoubtedly Park Seo Joon, who made fans kilig with his convincing chemistry with capable leading ladies like Park Min Young in What's Wrong With Secretary Kim, Kim Ji Won in Fight For My Way, and Kim Da Mi in Itaewon Class.
But before becoming everyone's favorite leading man, Park Seo Joon also had a taste of being a supporting actor in Kill Me, Heal Me. He and main lead Ji Sung won the Best Couple Award at the MBC Drama Awards, so it's safe to say he was some sort of a second lead in the drama, LOL.
