American gymnast Simone Biles recently pulled out of the rest of the gymastics events in the Tokyo Olympics for mental health concerns. The four-time Olympic gold medalist will not be joining the individual all-around competition and also withdrew from the team finals.

"I have to do what's right for me and focus on my mental health and not jeopardize my health and my wellbeing. I just don't trust myself as much as I used to, and I don't know if it's age. I'm a little bit more nervous when I do gymnastics," Biles told reporters, as per an article on reportr.

Many lauded Biles for her courageous decision to put her health first, among them is pop star Justin Bieber. Despite not knowing each other personally, Bieber posted a photo of Biles on his Instagram account and expressed his admiration for what the star athlete did.

"Nobody will ever understand the pressures you face! I know we don’t know each other but I’m so proud of the decision to withdraw. It’s as simple as - what does it mean to gain the whole world but forfeit your soul. Sometimes our no’s are more powerful than our yes’s. When what you normally love starts to steal your joy it’s important we take a step back to evaluate why," his caption reads.

Bieber also recounted his own decision to cancel the rest of his Purpose tour back in 2017 and said that it was "the best thing I could have done for my mental health." The canceled tour dates included supposed shows in the Philippines, Singapore, and Japan, among other locations in Asia and North America. "Me taking this time right now is me saying I want to be SUSTAINABLE... I want my career to be sustainable, but I also want my mind and soul to be sustainable," Justin explained back then.

Biles saw Bieber's Instagram post and left crying and heart emojis in the comments section. In 2020, the Olympian opened up to international magazine Vogue about depression and overcoming abuse from former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar. "I knew that by sharing my story, I would help other survivors feel comfortable and safe in coming forward," she shared in the interview.
