Many of our fondest memories in school is when, at the end of a day's worth of classes, we stop by our resident street food vendors near campus and snack on budget-friendly street food. While many of us miss the taste of street-side delicacies, actress Julia Barretto got to try most of the student-favorite street food for the first time ever in 2021.
Julia was a "very special guest" on Gerald Anderson's new YouTube video, and there, he introduced Julia to Filipino street food and delicacies she's never tried before. Some of the crowd favorites she got to try are isaw, balunbalunan, manggang hilaw, binatog, suman, and kwek-kwek.Â
During the video, Julia even shared a fond high school memory when she would buy fishball outside her school. Julia attended Miriam College before transferring and eventually graduating from St. Paul College - Pasig. "Yung sa school namin before may ganito, kwek kwek. Five pesos each," Julia recalls. Unfortunately, she wasn't a fan of it, but she did say that fishball has always been her favorite even when she was still in school.
Aside from getting a taste of local street food for the first time, the video also marks the first ever appearance of Julia and Gerald as a couple. To step up the mukbang, Julia was asked some personal questions by Gerald. One was about her plans in five to 10 years, which she says is to start a family and live a quiet life. She also explained how all her life was spent under the spotlight, with both her parents being celebrities and her line of work also being in the same field. "I always dream of living a simple, quiet life," she says. And the greatest lesson she's learned so far? To just keep going.
