On September 25, actress Julia Barretto went to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Cybercrime Division to file a formal complaint against Jay Sonza who posted rumors about Julia's supposed pregnancy on his Facebook account just a few days ago.
"I think I just want to show people na hindi ko na pinapalampas yung mga bagay na ganito," Julia shares in a video posted by journalist MJ Felipe. Julia was accompanied by her mother Marjorie Barretto.
According to Pep.ph, Sonza, a former newscaster at ABS-CBN, GMA, and UNTV, claimed in his Facebook post that Julia was pregnant and former co-star Gerald Anderson was the father. Part of Sonza's controversial post said, "Happy Monday po. Makikibalita ako kung kailan ang kasal sa aking neighbor," pertaining to the two.
Julia was quick to dispel the rumors by posting a photo of her toned body on Instagram with the caption, "FAKE NEWS :)".
Julia's mother and siblings also took to social media to express their support to the 23-year-old actress.
Celebrities pursuing legal battle
Just a day before, Julia's fellow Kapamilya actress Liza Soberano also filed a case against a netizen who made a rape remark about her. The remark was supposedly from an employee of Converge, an internet provider whose services Liza had formerly been availing of prior to switching because of poor service. "Don’t worry we won’t let this one pass," Liza says in a tweet.
In July 2020, former Miss Universe Catriona Gray also went to NBI to file a complaint against the malicious online circulation of a fake nude photo.
