Although balancing work and school is far from easy, many Gen Z stars still take their studies seriously. For example, Darna leading man Joshua Garcia recently revealed that he actually returned to college during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Noong pandemic, wala akong magawa. Galing ako sa breakup, then pandemic, inisip kong magbasa ng libro pero ‘di enough. Kulang, so sabi ko, bakit ‘di kaya mag-aral ako?” he revealed in a Magandang Buhay guesting.
Since Joshua wasn’t that confident about going back to school, he first went to his mom to ask for some advice. Awww, how sweet! “Nag-consult ako kay mama. Sabi ko, ‘Ma, mag-aral kaya ako? Tulungan mo nalang ako sa pag-enroll,’” he explained, adding that she even helped him craft his college essay.
“‘Pag nag-enroll kasi sa college, parang kailangan pa ng essay. Hindi naman ako sanay ng ganoon kasi napaka-bulakbol ko noong time ko before,” he recounts. ICYDK, Joshua was forced to drop out of high school when his father suddenly lost his job.
But thanks to his mom, Joshua was admitted to an entrepreneurship course at Southville International School Affiliated with Foreign Universities last 2020. And yes, Joshua’s mom is still his go-to study buddy until now!
“Siya ‘yung consultant ko sa [school]. Ang setup namin is gagawin ko ‘yung papers, tapos i-po-proofread niya. Aayusin niya ‘yung mga sentences, ‘yung words,” he shared.
“Siya ‘yung mas tumulong sa’kin na makabalik sa pag-aaral,” he concluded. “‘Yun ang naging bonding namin. Ngayon, mas bumibisita na siya sa bahay.”
