Boy bands and pop stars come and go, but there are those who stay under the limelight by following their own path. You may know Joao Constancia as a member of BoybandPH, but the 22-year-old performer has also ventured into other avenues of showcasing his talent, like acting. And although he's busy exploring his potential in the acting department, the boy group member still finds ways to live out his original passion--dancing and performing.
Read on to learn more about Joao:
Joao is a Capricorn.
Joao is born on December 22, 1996, making him a Capricorn. Capricorns are known for being serious and independent who often have their walls up, but are very reliable and extremely hardworking.
Although Joao is a hundred percent Filipino, he grew up abroad because of his parents' work. His dad is a nurse, while his mom is an assistant teacher. Joao is also the kuya in the family. He has two younger siblings.
His full name is Joao Michael V. Constancia, and in case you didn't know, Joao's first name is actually of Portuguese origin. He revealed the reason behind his name in an interview on Magandang Buhay. Originally, Joao's parents wanted to give him the English name John, but because they lived in Macau (and Macau had Portuguese influences after being colonized in the 1550s), they decided to name him Joao instead.
Joao started out as a constestant on Pinoy Boyband Superstar.
Joao's career in the local entertainment industry began when he joined the singing competition Pinoy Boyband Superstar in 2016. Together with Niel Murillo, Russell Reyes, Ford Valencia, and Tristan Ramirez, Joao won the competition to perform as the new boy group BoybandPH.
Aside from the Four Sisters prequel, Joao got to work with Jameson again, this time for a web BL series called My Lockdown Romance.
Joao is related to a celebrity.
The entertainment industry is smaller than it seems, and you'll find that some of your favorite stars actually came from the same family. Joao found out that he is actually related to former co-star Elisse Joson. Joao and Elisse both starred in Wansapanataym and in an interview with TV host Boy Abunda, Joao shared that, when one of his ninongs saw the teaser to their show, he immediately texted Joao and shared that Elisse is actually their kamag-anak. What a coincidence!
Whether you're a fan or not, a handful of this generation's pop stars looked up to Justin Bieber one way or another, and the Boyband member is no exception. Joao also had his own JB phase in the form of throwback selfies with side-swept hair and thick-framed glasses.
In late 2017, Joao and actress Sue Ramirez confirmed their relationship with each other. Around two years later, the two have officially broken up. Even though they're no longer together (and Sue is happily dating Javi Benitez!), they ended their relationship on good terms and are still friends with each other. "Okay naman and we still talk at hindi kami naghiwalay na hindi kami okay sa isa't isa," Sue once said in an interview.
